SPAM of future past (G)
Send this joke to a friend!

One of the guys in the office decided to put a bunch of old magazine ads up on the wall. One keeps catching my eye from National Geographic in the November, 1938 back cover ad. I'm not making any of this up:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPAMwiches...SPAM and eggs...baked SPAM -- these are just a few of the quick tricks you can perform with this fascinating new Hormel meat of many, many uses. Cold or hot, SPAM hits the spot around the clock: for breakfast, luncheon, cocktail hour, dinner or midnight snack. And it's all so easy! You don't even have to crowd SPAM into your refrigerator -- just keep it on your pantry shelf, ready for action. Swing to SPAM today -- at your local food store. A product of Geo. A. Hormel & Co.

BAKED SPAM -- Place whole SPAM in shallow baking pan, score flat surface, insert 4 cloves. Bake in moderate oven. After 10 minutes, pour over surface a top dressing made with 1/8 cup light brown sugar, 1 tps. prepared mustard, 1/2 tsp. vinegar, 1 tsp. water. Mix to smooth paste. bake 15 minutes, basting every 5 minutes.

SPAMWICHES: These smart new sandwiches are made with cold sliced SPAM. And there are dozens of delicious variations.

SPAM & EGGS: Just fry SPAM slices and serve with eggs as shown. Or dice SPAM for Spambled eggs.

CANAPES: Serve SPAM bits on tiny crackers or toothpicks. For other smart SPAM suggestions, see the label on the can.

I particularly like the phrase 'fascinating new meat'. If that was the best they could come up with...
